If you’ve looked closely at a Bengal Laboratories product, you may have noticed two names — for example, “Diureton” and, in smaller text beneath it, “Sharbat Buzuri.”

The first is the brand name — chosen by the manufacturer and unique to that company. The second is the generic (classical Unani) name, referring to the traditional formulation itself, which may be produced by multiple manufacturers under different brand names.

This is similar in concept to how a conventional pharmacy might sell “Paracetamol” under several different brand names — the generic name tells you what the formulation fundamentally is, while the brand name tells you who made it.

Knowing both names is useful: it lets you discuss your medication clearly with a Hakim or physician, and helps you understand what you’re taking even if you switch between brands.

Every Bengal Laboratories product page lists both the brand and generic name, along with its dosage form and DGDA registration number, for exactly this reason.
